Bike tip: What Tires do I need?

One of the most asked questions of the team is, "can I do the 30/60/100 miles on a mountain bike?".
The answer is yes, but the 60 & 100 are going to be difficult with those knobby tires. The fix is not a new bike, the gearing on a mountain bike is good enough for the terrain of all 3 routes, but your tires may need to be changed out if you want to do the 60 or 100 mile ride.

The solution need not be expensive. The sort of tire you need is often called the 'city' tire as it has a little bit of tread (like the one pictured) but is smooth in the center. A couple of options under $20 are linked here and here ...
