Let's get training, Part 1: the weekends...

5 weeks to the ride - its time to consider some training rides. Team CS has always been the vanguard team in the MS Ride in terms of preparing everyone for the challenge of 30, 60 or 100 miles. The 100 milers are going to burn as many calories as a marathon runner, so we'd better get a bit of practice in, eh?

Our rides are open to anyone in the team (indeed anyone at all) but we recommend the weekend rides for the 60 & 100 milers as we tend to cover a fair distance on those rides.

On each ride we'll have 2 groups. The "pace" group will be riding at around 18-20mph, whereas the "survivor" group will be riding at 14-15mph. Distance will be adjusted so the training rides will be between 3 & 4 hours. Each group will have a leader who knows the route and will adjust the tempo to keep the group together as best as possible, so all you'll need is yourself and your bike.
Proposed schedule (Distances approx):
  • 9/16 - 9am Engineer's Gate of Central Park (90th & 5th): 9:30am West side of GWB in Fort Lee (Hudson Terrace) - Pace group 50 miles; Survivor group 40 miles

  • 9/23 - 9am Engineer's Gate of Central Park (90th & 5th): 9:30am West side of GWB in Fort Lee (Hudson Terrace) - Pace group 57 miles; Survivor group 45 miles

  • 9/30 - 9am Engineer's Gate of Central Park (90th & 5th): 9:30am West side of GWB in Fort Lee (Hudson Terrace) - Pace group 65 miles; Survivor group 50 miles
